SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Stephen Curry will be out for some time as he recovers from a left leg injury, but he hopes to resume some on-court work during the All-Star break.
After suffering an injury while defending McKinley Wright IV as he drove to the basket against Dallas on February 4, the defending NBA Finals MVP missed his fourth consecutive game. Curry's shin was hit by Wright's knee.
Curry stated, "It was pretty big knock that kind of jolted the bone and ligaments in there, which were all terms I didn't know existed before." "It was all terms I didn't know existed before. It was simply a matter of timing. You can sort of deal with it if my foot is elevated; however, because my foot was planted and I had a lot of weight on it, the force of the impact was a little bit more serious than I wanted it to be.
Curry stated that once he actually tests the leg on the court, he will likely have a better idea of the timeline and a possible return date. His left leg's interosseous membrane and superior tibiofibular ligament were found to be partially torn during an MRI examination. In addition, he had a cut.
Curry stated that it is difficult to estimate how long it will take for him to heal from the damage to the ligaments.
Curry stated, "At first it felt like it was a normal contusion, just a real serious one. That’s why I went to the bench and thought I could kind of just shake it off." However, when he got up from the bench, he felt something else and was like, "Nah, that's not right." I couldn't put any weight on it and was limping around, so I knew it wasn't just a simple contusion. Thankfully, no bones or anything else was broken.
Curry is eager to welcome back newly acquired guard Gary Payton II and to have everyone healthy so that he can attempt to win another championship. Curry is currently averaging 29.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game. He posed with his number despite missing the All-Star game. 30 Jersey West
With a left shoulder that was partially dislocated, Curry missed 11 games for the defending champions, making it his 19th game overall this season. Despite Golden State's struggles and inconsistent play, he remains optimistic about the team's chances.
Curry stated, "I know we’re a different team than we were, I know we have different challenges than we did last year, but it still has been proven that we are a tough out if we are healthy come playoff time and we have a shot to get into a series." Until something else proves otherwise, that is where all the optimism is."
